The duo, both 34, joked they want to clone themselves so they can retire to Spain.

Dec said: “I hope my future is on the golf course.”

They also said they want to act as producers for more shows after the success of their format idea Push The Button.

The ITV1 show was seen by 7.4million last Saturday.

Ant said: “We want to make more shows where we don’t star.”

Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are having a’ trial separation’

The pair have spent Christmas and New Year apart for the first time in a decade.

It seems that this split was Ant’s wife Lisa that prompted this trial split so that she could spend the holidays alone with her husband.

After Ant broke the news to Dec he left the country to go to a five star holiday in the Far East for himself and his wife.

But it appears that Dec isn’t really that bothered about starting the New Year without Ant. Instead the presenter took the chance to take girlfriend Georgie Thompson on a surprise holiday to Zanzibar.

A source has said “This is the first Christmas and New Year that Ant and Dec have spent apart in almost 10 years. It just shows how loved-up Dec is with Georgie that he didn’t mind not celebrating the festivities with his best mate for once. He and Ant have been inseparable since they got together, but recently Dec has been spending more and more time away from Ant. And that’s a good thing – living in each other’s pockets at 34 is a little bit sad.”

“Dec and Georgie couldn’t spend Christmas together so he wanted to do something special for New Year. Having 2010 dawn while they are in the air means it will be only the two of them.”

“Dec said he wants to start the year as he intends it to end – with Georgie. Everyone thinks this is going to lead somewhere. Georgie practically lives at Dec’s anyway so moving in would be the next step.”

“But his mum is itching to buy a hat.”

“She would love to get a call on New Year’s Day to say he had proposed- that would make her Christmas.”

John has said ‘We love Ant and Dec, They have been so successful because everyone loves them. They are unique and do their own thing, like us.

‘And like us they started out as singers and we loved them as PJ And Duncan. Their song Let’s Get Ready To Rumble was brilliant.

‘If we are like them that would be unbelievable. You never know. Watch out Ant and Dec!’

According to Dec, Ant was a miserable git and it was not love at first sight

“We met on the set of Byker Grove when we were 13 years old. We are now both 34 this year,” he said.

“When I first met Ant he was a right miserable git.

“It wasn’t love at first sight. Ant sent me a Fred Flintstone Christmas card that first Christmas, and it said ‘Dear Dec, have a yabba dabba do Christmas’.

“Then it said ‘PS do you fancy going to the Newcastle v Swindon match?’

“So that was our first date and we forged an amazing friendship from there and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.”

Ahh so cute, they really do make a lovely couple
