Shane Richie is to make a sensational return to EastEnders as loveable rogue Alfie Moon.

Richie, 45, who left the soap in 2005, will be back later this year. A spokeswoman for EastEnders said the star would be back on screen by the autumn.

Richie added: “I’m looking forward to finding out what Alfie has been up to and what the future has in store for him.” Shane became an instant hit when he joined BBC1’s flagship soap in 2002. He went on to become half of one of soap’s top double-acts with screen wife Kat Moon (actress Jessie Wallace).
