Rupert Grint’s fans save his movie

rupert-grint1Actor Rupert Grint is best known for his role as “Ron Weasley” in the Harry Potter movies which he has been playing since he was only 12 years old.

Now 21 Grint wants to try a different type of film, but his latest film, a coming of age drama called “Cherrybomb” proved to be unsuccessful with any distributor.

Grint’s ever loyal fans would not give up, they started online petitions and lobbied the film industry to try and get interest for the film.

Grint had this to say in an interview with the BBC Website.

“I am backing this campaign wholeheartedly,”

“I’m delighted by the huge support the film has already received on the official Facebook page and other sites on the web and am so grateful to my fans in particular, who have travelled the world to support the film at festivals and preview screenings.”

Simon Bosanquet a film producer from Britain’s Generator Entertainment has said that he admires Grint’s fans. Talking to BBC News website Bosanquet had this to say of the young star’s fans and his new film.

“With a lot of independent films, it is hard to get them noticed,”

“Rupert Grint has a very dedicated fan base and it was very much down to them that this started.”

There are bedroom and drug scenes in the movie, when asked how Grint’s fans may react to these Bosanquet said

“The film is a lot more than that, I suppose the interest of certain tabloids tends to be focused on areas where they can see Rupert playing characters unlike the ones he has played before.”

Cherrybomb is expected to be shown in cinemas sometime in the first half of 2010.
