Just days after supposedly proposing to his girlfriend Ayda Field live on Australian radio Robbie Williams has spoken to BBC and said that he is not engaged even though his mother has confirmed the engagement on BBC radio 5live

Williams has written “Hey all. We are not engaged. Rob.”

News of the engagement had been circulating since remarks made by Williams in a radio interview in Australia

A spokesman for Williams has said that it was all just a joke, but later Williams mum Jan went on to radio 5 and said that Williams had been planning to ask her for about a week.

During her interview Jan said

“I don’t think it will be that far in the not-too-distant future, but that’s all I’m going to say on that.”

“I’m very excited. I’m really pleased. They’ve been together for nearly three years, so it’s about time.

“She’s a great mate, as well as a lover. She’s got all the qualities that he needs in a girl. It’s a lovely match.”

A spokesman has said

“We have no more comment on this apart from to confirm that they are not engaged.”
