After hearing of Robbie Williams engagement to Ayda Field his mum Jan has come out to say that she gives the couple her blessing.

Williams asked Field to marry him during a radio interview in Australia on Thursday.

Some people have said that they think it was a joke but his mum is said to be thrilled by the news and insists that it is the real thing.

Jan also said that Williams had been planning to ask Field to marry him for over a week .

Speaking to BBC Radio 5live Jan said

“He wanted to do something different. She’s a lovely girl and I’m really pleased for them.

“They’ve been together for nearly three years so it’s about time. I think they’ll get married in the not-too-distant future.”
